Spoof Ad
For my spoof ad, I chose to use an ad for Urban Outfitters and make some changes to it. I chose Urban Outfitters due to all the controversy with the company and also because I personally would never shop there because of what they stand for. If you dont know what controversies I'm talking about click here or here.
My first couple of changes on the ad were to the text, I put emphasis on the BAN part of Urban by changing the font color. Then, I replaced the O in Outfitters with a circle with a slash in it to kind of say "Don't shop here!". After I was happy with what the text symbolized, I moved on to the imagery. In the original image there is a pile of clothes in a hamper with a cat on it and some spider webs, in my version there is a pile of clothing leading to and on top of a trash bin that includes 6 of their most controversial items.
I hope that by realizing the truth behind companies and big name brands it will really make people think before shopping there and supporting them.
Clothing Items Included In Spoof Ad

Kent State Sweatshirt
After the 1970's Kent State massacre, Urban Outfitters realesed this "vintage," faux-bloodstained Kent State Sweatshirt that sold for $129.
Depression Crop Top
Urban Outfitters once again finds itself in hot water when they released a shirt that romanticized this mental illness. Afterall, isnt every illness just a fashion statement waiting to happen? If you're interested in offending an abundance of people, you can make this shirt yours for just $59.00!
Baseball Tee Featuring Kurt Coubain's Suicide Note
I believe the problem with this is pretty self explanitory but just incase you're confused, here's why this is so wrong; Urban Outfitters took it upon themselves to turn the darkest moment in someone's life into some sort of messed up way to show that you're edgy and cool. You could sport this fun fashion statement for the low price of $25.19.

Eat Less V-Neck Shirt
In June 2010 Urban Outfitters managed to offend pretty much anyone that knows right from wrong with this $28.00 Eat Less shirt that glamourizes eating disorders. Cause isn't your mental and physical health something great to joke about?

Obama/Black V-Neck Shirt
At first galce this grey v-neck t-shirt doesnt look like it's hurting anybody, but look a little bit closer... In January 2010 Urban Outfitters' website featured this $14.99 shirt in two color combinations: "White/Charcoal" and "Obama/Black.". Not long after somone picked up on this, they sincerely apologized and claimed it was an accident. But how do you let racism 'accidentally' slip by?

I Support Same Sex Pulled From Shelves
In 2008, during the heat of California's vote on gay-marriage-killing Proposition 8, Urban Outfitters began selling a T-shirt emblazoned with the phrase "I Support Same-Sex Marriage", nothing wring with that, right? wrong. Less than a week later they pulled it from shelves and the web, with a buyer blaming "too much bad press.". Goes to show Urban Outfitters isn't as strong in their convictions as they claim!
